August, 2010 Divi Zheni, Orfeia and Zornitsa Concert Tour Koprivshitsa Folk Festival and other venues Koprivshtitsa, Sozopol and Plovdiv Bulgaria In August 2010, our artistic director, Tatiana Sarbinska, will lead her three vocal ensembles on a two-week concert tour of Bulgaria! We want to thank our funders, and the many fans and friends who attended our benefit concerts this year, making this tour possible. We will return musically edified and ready to share what we've learned with you! Details below!
Friday, August 6, 2010 Village Center Koprivshtitsa Bulgaria This National Folklore Festival takes place once every five years, in the beautiful mountain hamlet of Koprivshtitsa. Every village, town and city in Bulgaria sends it's best folk musicians and dancers to perform traditional works for three music-drenched days. Beautiful, ancient harmonies resound from peak to peak, and elevate the listeners' soul! Visitors come from around the world to experience and participate. We'll be singing village-style folk songs in the town square! Aahh!!
Tuesday, August 10, 2010 Town Center Sozopol Bulgaria At the invitation of the town's Mayor, we'll be performing in this beautiful, ancient fishing and farming village on the Black Sea, which now draws international beach-going tourists. We'll meet the town's Mayor, and tour the ruins and relics which, anthropologists have recently discovered, prove that some of mankind's first ever stone and metal tools, and exquisite painted pottery, originated in this region.
Thursday, August 12, 2010 Plovdiv Bulgaria We'll perform in the city of Plovdiv, and then stay with families in the nearby village of Kalojanovo, who'll be cooking us a big feast of a dinner. There's bound to be singing and dancing late into the night, with many toasts and swigs of rakiya (Bulgarian brandy). Ajde!
